Quote:oh not much then haha sounds nice mate i must ask what material is the heat shield on your induction kit? and any idea how it works as i my engine gets very lumpy on hot days and seems like it needs more cold air haha i know the fmic may help but this intreages me also "

Got a fmic sat in the garage n although its big it aint big enuf so im looking for a bigger 1 then sum1 to do it as my knowledge of engines stops b4 doing this!
James so what engine mods have you done then adam?
"My heat shield is made of plastic. As long as they're not made of metal or anythings thats gonna get hot then they'l work. How it works.... Hot air is less dence than cold air (it takes up more space) therefore wen its hot u dont get get as much air into the engine. This means less oxygen to burn n the fuel-air ratio mix can get cocked up so u lose power. This is often y when ppl put new induction kits on their cars they see no gain or even lose power. Most modern cars have some kind of cold air feed but ppl pull em off n stick a cone where the old air box used to be. The box lets less air in but then its often cold. A cone sat next to the engine is jst gonna suck in hot air n make little or no difference to performance. All that Turbos n super charges do is force more air in than a filter does(they compress it) thats y its called forced induction cos air in pushed/forced into the engine. The moral to the story is....if ur gonna buy an induction kit dont buy a cheap 1! Always get 1 with a shild n a cold air feed. As my feed comes out at the front of the car as im drivin faster colder air is pretty much forced up the pipe at speed n fed directly into the filter "
Turbos/supercharges dont works as well on hot days for the same reason. They get very hot very quickly n again u get the problem of hot air. This is where intercoolers come in to chill em out. Who saw the Maclaren F1 muller the Veyron off the line on TG? This was due to the turbos not working to their max performance as they were in Saudia Rabia or sumwhere equally as hot. Intercoolers also get hot which is not good as the turbo gets too hot. The bigger the cooler the more cold air is blasted at it so it will keep the turbo cooler for longer. U really want it front mounted (like Evos) as cold air is blasted into em as u drive along. Subaru have this silly idea of mounting them on top of the engine......stupid really! This is why i've put a bigger scoop on the bonnet to let more cold air get to it n y i want to front mount a bigger 1. Some Scoobs have a water spray button u can press that shoots cold water into the intercooler (I want 1 of these)

Quote:Yeah i drove her to destruction lol! The bottom pulley span that fast that it ground itself into iron filings n nearly few off!! Wen i reached into the engine i jst pulled it off (u really shouldn't b able to do that). Doing 92mph in 3rd not far from the line n instead of changing gear (n losing time) i booted it to 8500rpm hit 100 in 3rd n the engine told to 2 stop being a n went mental.....hit 9250rpm n jst bounced off it for 20 secs even though i was in neutral??!?! Had to turn the engine off 2 stop it! Not long later drivin along n engine warning light comes on handbrake light comes on (still dont know y) battery light came on n power steering died all at the same time (I myself) _Ǭ£518 later n everythings ok. Luckily the cam belt didnt come off otherwise that would av bin a new enine."
speed-freak haha didnt your car brake at the york drag way??? lmao! we were lucky it got us to peterboro and back with your engine light warning you sumat wasnt right! hah glad its all sorted now though huni
" Very informative posts there mate i think i will have to have a look at getting something similar done on mine still need to source a FMIC too my problem is if its not a bargin i wont buy it haha But im sure something will pop up the cone filter i have is apexi and has the forced apexi charger as well as the uprated maf but as you say i think a cold air feed and heat sheild will make a massive difference! **toddles off to halfrauds to try find some piping haha** "
